It is filled with many images of artwork generated through the process within an innovative design. Article contentĪ: The book is a broad representation of our activities over the years with a focus on the three exhibitions but also writing by various physicists and scholars who participated in the project, as well as our own writing on collaboration, language and beauty to name a few inspiring thematics. Working with a team of physicists at TRIUMF, we organized three phases of teamwork, each one with a different model of collaboration, and installed an exhibition at our university after each phase. From the start we celebrated our shared interests in creativity, communication and perhaps most importantly, metaphor. We approached the director of TRIUMF and proposed LOoW, a multi-year collaboration between artists and physicists. Together, we decided to explore our enthusiasm for art/science research beyond curriculum through a partnership with TRIUMF. I, too, have had a long-standing interest in art and science, which began with my PhD dissertation examining the surrealist fascination with the sciences in the early 20th century. More than 10 years ago, I learned that she was an artist in residence at TRIUMF Canada’s particle accelerator centre (owned by a consortium of 20 Canadian universities). 1 jpg Q: How did this book come about?Ī: Ingrid Koenig and I have been working alongside each other for years as colleagues at Emily Carr University. Postmedia asked Randy Lee Cutler, who edited the book with Ingrid Koenig, to offer up a bit more insight into this unique creation. “A strong theme that I take away is that, at a fundamental level, physics, arts and sciences are all rooted in our drive to understand ourselves and the world around us,” Nigel Smith the executive director and CEO, TRIUMF says in the new book.
